ADVANCED OPEN WATER COURSE
The PADI Advanced Open Water Course is open to divers looking to explore different diving interests and
who want to extend their depth limit to 30m. To certify as an Advanced Open Water diver you will need to
complete five adventure dives. The beauty of this course is that the focus is on the diving with minimal
classroom work… and no exam!
Why take the Advanced Open Water Diver certification? Perhaps you have just finished your Open Water
Course and you are eager to take the next step, maybe you have been out of the water for a while, or
maybe you learned to dive abroad and are interested in trying some of the amazing diving available in the
UK.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The advanced course consists of 5 dives: 2 core dives (Deep and Underwater navigation) and 3 elective
dives. The elective dives you may choose will depend on various environmental factors and your specific
interests. Your instructor will help you choose these dependant on the site you are planning to visit.
In the UK the most popular selections are Enriched Air (Nitrox), Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck, Dry
Suit, Multilevel and computer and Underwater Digital Photographer. If there are other dives that interest
you please let us know and we will see what we can do!
There are no exams or classroom work on this course: you just need to read the relevant sections of the
Adventures in Diving manual and complete the knowledge reviews before the start of your course.
ELECTIVE DIVES:
AWARE fish identification
Boat dive
Diver Propulsion Vehicle (underwater scooter)
Drift dive

DURATION AND COURSE SCHEDULE:
5 dives over one weekend, plus an evening, or weekend pool session for the drysuit orientation.
Dependant on dive site location, we either complete 2 or 3 dives on the Saturday, spend the night at a local
B&B and complete 2 or 3 dives at the same location on the Sunday… or… complete 2 or 3 dives locally on
the Saturday and then make an early start to travel to Chepstow or Vobster on the Sunday. You should be
back in London for 7:00pm.
LOCATIONS:
Day One: Wraysbury, Day Two: The National Diving and Activity Centre, near Chepstow, or Vobster Quay,
near Bath.
PREREQUISITES:
Minimum age 10 (some dives are restricted for junior divers)
Open Water Diver or have an equivalent certification from another training organisation
You should be in relatively good health and fitness and you will need to make sure that you can answer
‘no’ to all the questions on the medical questionnaire, if not you will need medical clearance from a doctor.
WHAT NEXT?
After the Advanced Open Water course your options are endless and we will be more than happy to advise
you on the best options for you. If you have enjoyed completing your course in the UK, you may want to join
our dive club and have the opportunity to go on many UK dive trips, and also enjoy the regular social
events www.diveaquanaut.co.uk
You can also investigate many of the specialist areas of diving we offer including enriched air (Nitrox) deep,
wreck, navigation and dry suit and join the elite group of Master Scuba Divers.
And finally you may want to master some self rescue skills, and learn how to look after other divers? If so
then the Rescue Course is for you. It is probably the most challenging, but undoubtedly the most fun!
