We are organising a diving trip to Iceland from the 8th to the 13th of March 2017 during which we also hope to see the Northern Lights. The trip will be suitable for recreational divers of all levels with dry suit certification and dry suit experience.

What is Diving in Iceland Like?

diver_in_the_big_crack_of_silfraCold? Yes very cold indeed, this why you need to be a Dry suit diver in order to join us on this trip.

Once you pass that “brain freeze” effect diving in Iceland is unique. First we can dive Silfra. For those who haven’t heard about it Silfra is a unique dive site where you dive between Europe and America’s continental plates, with probably the best visibility you will find in the world as it can reach 100m+!!! The colder the water the better the viz they say!!

scuba_iceland_ocean_diving_07-1000x700Then we are planning to dive in the Ocean at Gardur where we can expect a lot of fish life including the infamous Wolf fish if we are lucky (or not considering that it’s pretty ugly).

We have searched all over the Internet and at the moment the best deal we have found is a return flight with Norwegian at £100 including 20kg check-in bag leaving Wednesday 9th at 6.15am from Gatwick to Reykjavik and returning at 1pm on Monday 14th same Airport.

That is what we found and these are the flights that we will take ourselves but you are welcome to find your own deal, if you do come across something cheaper please let us know!!

scuba_iceland_silfra_diving_19-1000x700We will be diving with Scuba Iceland. They are based in Reykjavik, very close to our accommodation and they are offering the following:

-1 day with 2 dives at La Silfra

-1 day with 2 Ocean dives

-1 day of sightseeing including Gulfos waterfall (biggest in Europe), Geysers and a Northern light tour in the evening

-And depending on the conditions and your budget you could to an extra day with 2 dives either at Silfra or in a Geothermal lake (This is not include in the price, it’s around £200/pers. And really depend on the conditions on the day). If not diving we could just have a nice relaxing day in Reykjavik.

nudi_branch_iceland_2The plan is flexible from one day to another as Byron, the DC Manager wants us to have the best trip. Obviously Monday 13th will be a dry day for those flying in the morning the following day.

I’d like to mention that Byron has warned me that if the air temperature goes below zero we will do only one dive on any of the days diving. We hope that you understand that is beyond our control.

Accommodation is in Reykjavik is Hostel style but very nice and we have booked 2 dorms with 5/6 beds with shared bathroom.

Trip Cost:

003522_ystein-lunde-ingvaldsen_www-nordnorge-com_boeThe total trip cost is approximately £800/pers (depending of the £ variation it could be less or more as we have been quoted in ISK) including accommodation for 5 nights, 4 dives (if conditions allow it), Golden Circle tour, Northern lights tour, transfers for the diving and tour days and there is an added bonus of an experienced PADI instructor to make sure all go smoothly!

This is fantastic value for such a special trip.

Not included is dive equipment other than Tanks and Weights, Flights and Airport transfer.

If you would like to book onto the trip* or have questions, please contact Mehdi in the shop asap as spaces are limited to 10 people!

*A non returnable deposit of £200 will be needed to secure your spot
